16th November 2008 - Destructive Storm

Following a sunny day with a maximum temperature of 35.1ºc and winds predominantly from the N / NW, a southerly change came through at approximately 17:00 which resulted in a severe storm with high rainfall and high winds. Unfortunately an extended power disruption to the mains power supply caused the battery backup power for the servers to run flat and the servers shut down. Luckily the WMR200 can run on its own internal battery power, so no weather data was lost, however Boltek lightning detector stopped recording during the height of the storm. All UPS equipment has been upgraded to bigger batteries, so we are ready for the ‘next big one’!
